Week 2. Day 3. Institutional Racism: How does racism live formally and informally in our organizations and communities and how can we uproot it?
I am going to turn this around a bit. How can minorities recognize white institutions that are not racist? I see many faith-based and non-profit organizations that appear to be all-white, or lead by white people, yet they are not racist. I feel bad for people who are white in this situation because they can’t help the color of their skin nor can they eliminate the intimidation that their skin color can cause in others. There isn’t a good way for them to message their desire to assist and accept all skin colors. Putting minorities in leadership positions seems like an easy way to make organizations more approachable to minorities, but there may not be an available talent pool to take leadership positions in certain areas of the world.
